The Indigo Girls will give a benefit concert for El Refugio on April 30 at the Variety Playhouse, with Matt Nathanson and Chastity Brown as guests. “We are so honored to have the Indigo Girls performing on our behalf,” said JoAnn Weiss, board chair. “So many of our supporters are big fans, and we can’t wait to sing ‘Closer to Fine’ ”

The El Refugio board is also impressed with the Indigo Girls’ longtime commitment to important community issues, including immigrant rights. Emily Saliers visited El Refugio’s Hospitality House in Lumpkin in 2017.

Funds raised at the concert will go toward maintaining the organization’s new Hospitality House, which was donated by TBS and “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” in December, and expanding services for detained immigrants who have been released from Stewart Detention Center. El Refugio’s post-release program will ensure detainees who have bonded out, been paroled, or won their case will be reunited with their family as quickly as possible.

The Indigo Girls show is sold out, but additional tickets could be released closer to the date. Follow El Refugio’s Facebook page for updates.
